JICA Assisted Guwahati Sewerage Project

Implementing Agency: PIA-GMDW&SB Status: Active

Project Overview & Scope

To assist the City with sewerage collection and treatment with completion of water supply project, Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water Supply & Sewerage Board (GMDWS&SB) has developed a project under Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA)’s assistance for implementing sewerage system and sewage treatment plants within Guwahati City. For this, the Guwahati City has been divied into three zones; viz; Zone 1 comprising of South East, South Central Guwahati & part of South West Guwahati, while Zone 2 covers part of South West Guwahati, and Zone 3 covers North Guwahati.
In the re-validated DPR, the existing Zone 1 was divided into three sub-zones (Subzone-1-S1, 1-S2 & 1-S3) with their respective sewerage schemes along with independent STPs and discharge locations based on topography and hydraulic gradient in each zone. Considering technical and financial aspects i.e. cost of the project and availability of limited JICA fund, the project has now been proposed to be executed in two phases:
Phase 1- Subzone 1-S2 + 1-S3
Phase 2- Subzone 1-S1
